Roy
has been working professionally as an herbalist
since 1981. He is trained in both Western
and Chinese herbal medicine, and is also a specialist
in the medicinal plants of the United States Virgin
Islands. Roy is a founding member and current Vice-President
of the American Herbalists Guild, a national peer
review
organization for professional herbalists specializing
in the use of medicinal plants. He also serves on
the board of directors of the Botanical Medicine
Academy.
Roy is the general manager of Planetary Formulas,
a California-based herb company, and is a
member of the
Standards Committee of the American Herbal Products
Association. He has written and co-written several
books, including contributions on Echinacea and
St. John's wort to Keat's Publishing's Good Health
Series, the Botanical Safety Handbook by CRC
Press and Essays on American Herbalism by
Crossing Press.

Michael McGuffin is President of the American Herbal Products Association. He has been active in the herbal industry since 1975, having owned and managed both retail and manufacturing businesses in this field. He is the Managing Editor of Botanical Safety Handbook (1997) and of Herbs of Commerce, 2nd edition (2000). He also serves as a Director of the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia®, as a Board member of United Plant Savers and of the Dietary Supplement Education Alliance, and as Chair of the Industry Committee of the Plant Conservation Alliance / Medicinal Plants Working Group.

Dr. Lori Bestervelt is the Senior Vice President & Chief Technical Officer of NSF International and serves as a Director of the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia. She received a PhD in Toxicology, MS in Nutritional Biochemistry, and BS in Microbiology/Immunology, all at the University of Michigan. Dr. Bestervelt's professional experiences include Research Assistant at the University of Michigan Toxicology Division, Postdoctoral Fellow and Lecturer, at the University of Michigan Department of Biochemistry, a Postdoctoral Fellowship on Pathology and Experimental Toxicology at Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Research Division, and Director of Toxicology, NSF International. Dr. Bestervelt's expertise encompasses Laboratory Technical Operations, Toxicology, Microbiology, Dietary Supplements, and Nutritional Biochemistry.
